DEAD-INN STINK BUG TRAP FAQs
WHAT IS AN AGGREGATION PHEROMONE?
Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs produce an aggregation pheromone where both sexes congregate to source of the pheromone. The function of the pheromone may be for protection from predators, a food signal, or a mating opportunity. We have reproduced this aggregation pheromone and placed it in a controlled release dispenser, to attract stink bugs to the trap.
HOW LONG DOES THE LURE LAST?
30 days. It is in a controlled release dispenser that allows the pheromone to dispenser steadily over a 30 day period.
HOW FAR DOES THE LURE ATTRACT?
The lure will attract up to a distance of 50ft. This is dependent on temperature, wind direction, and population density.
HOW MANY DEAD-INN STINK BUG TRAPS DO I NEED?
The lure will attract up to a distance of 50ft. For the average size home, we recommend that you place one in your front yard and one in your backyard. More may be needed if you have a large yard, live near a wooded area or orchards, grow vegetables, etc. 8-10 stink bug traps are recommended per acre.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO USE THE TRAP?
The trap can be used year round; however, stink bugs are generally only eating, mating, and laying eggs outside during late Spring, Summer and early Fall. To see the best results from the trap place outside from June thru September/October when temperatures are consistently 60-70 degrees and warmer, and there is an abundant food supply.
Stink bugs will start to emerge from hibernation mode in April as temperatures warm; however, physiologically they are not yet able to aggregate (respond to the pheromone) until there is an adequate food supply outside: fruits, vegetables, nuts, and flowers. Trap capture will be limited.

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO PUT THE TRAP?
Place the trap outside, at least 10ft from your biggest
problem area. For the yellow Stink Bug trap see directions on the Dead Inn
page. For the taller green traps, place where the trap can be seen by
stink bugs from at least 25-50 ft. Do not allow weeds to hide the trap
from view. Adult stink bugs think that the trap is a tree trunk and will
fly to it. Nymphs may walk to it if the trap is close and visible.
WHY DOESN'T THE TRAP WORK IN MY HOUSE?
As temperatures drop during late Fall, stink bugs look for shelter to overwinter. Once they have found a suitable location, often a home or other structure, they go into hibernation mode until Spring when temperatures warm back up. During the hibernation period indoors, stink bugs are unresponsive to the aggregation pheromone nor do they feed or respond to any food attractant. In the Spring, stink bugs leave the shelter and go outside to eat and mate.
